IRS Announces Pension Plan Limitations for 2011

The IRS announced cost of living adjustments affecting dollar limitations and other retirement-related items for 2011. In general, the limits will remain unchanged. Listed below are the 2011 limits.

  • Elective deferral limit for 401(k), 403(b) or 457(b) – $16,500
  • Catch-up contribution limit – $5,500
  • 415 limit for defined contribution plans – $49,000
  • 415 limit for  the annual benefit under a defined benefit plan – $195,000
  • Annual compensation limit – $245,000
  • Dollar limit concerning definition of key employee in top heavy plan – $160,000
  • Limitation used in definition of HCE – $110,000
  • Limitation regarding SIMPLE accounts – $11,500
