Providing Hope for Veterans with PTSD

Dr. Patrick Nuzzo (1)

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury affect an estimated 1 in 3 combat service members, according to the Lone Survivor Foundation. Salmon Sims Thomas client, Southwest University of Naprapthic Medicine, is making a difference in the lives of PTSD sufferers through naprapathy, a form of physical therapy. Naprapathy is an alternative medicine that works on the soft connective tissue that holds the skeletal frame together.  After a series of treatments, patients feel better, sleep longer, and are better able to open up emotionally about trauma that may have happened decades ago.

Dr. Patrick Nuzzo founded the Southwest University of Naprapthic Medicine in Santa Fe, NM in 2006 after beginning his career in nutrition, then studying and graduating with a degree in naprapathic medicine. Currently, naprapathy is not recognized as a sanctioned treatment for PTSD by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care System for New Mexico. Dr. Nuzzo is advocating a bill in the New Mexico legislature that would appropriate $90,000 for a study on the efficacy of naprapathic medicine in treating PTSD. Thank you, Dr. Nuzzo, for your work on behalf of our vets!
